Theodorou cites elevator incident for lack of glove touch, picks up victory

With a win over 40-year-old Daniel Kelly at UFC Fight Night 121, Toronto’s Elias Theodorou moved his professional mixed martial arts record to 13-2.

Perhaps the most interesting moment of the bout took place at the beginning, when Theodorou refused to tough gloves with Kelly.

It was an interesting, out of character from Theodorou, but as he explained in his post-fight interview, there was more to the story.

“I think people are offended because I didn’t high-five him at the beginning,” Theodorou said as Kelly’s hometown fans in Sydney booed the decision victory. “But Dan was shaking my hand the whole time and then we saw eachother in the elevator and he started swearing at me and cussing at me, being all aggressive.”

The win moves Theodorou’s record to 6-2 inside the Octagon, putting him back in the win column following his July loss to Brad Tavares. For Kelly, the loss marks two in a row after an unlikely four-fight win streak that included a victory over Rashad Evans.
