Logan McGuinness set to return February 10
It’s been a rough year for Logan McGuiness (25-1-1), but he’s looking to put all that behind him.
After suffering his first loss as a professional in March, McGuinness is looking to get back in the win column on February 10 when he headlines a Lee Baxter Promotions card in Southern Ontario.
Details, including a venue and opponent, are expected to be announced soon.
McGuiness was the favourite on March 18, 2017 when he took on Horacio Alfredo Cabral for the WBC International Silver Super Featherweight Title. But the Orangeville, Ontario native came out flat, unable to let his punches go and was forced to settle for a unanimous decision defeat.
While not one to make excuses, Baxter said that a significant knee injury was a major contributing factor to the poor performance.
“In no way have I gotten demotivated or behind on what we're doing with him. Logan is prone to injury and I think he's prone to injury because of lack of communication,” Baxter said. “He doesn't tell us when he's hurt and then he still goes out there. When he came out of that fight in March, after a week or two of grieving and healing, he realized that he should tell me the truth that his knee had been bothering him for quite some time.”
According to Baxter, McGuinness underwent reconstructive ACL surgery over the summer and has been busy rehabbing the injury.
“Now he's rehabbed it, he's been monitoring his weight which is at about 150 pounds,” Baxter said. “He's in the kitchen cooking some stuff up.”
