Baxter discusses Cave-Dilmaghani matchup
On Feb. 10, we saw what Alex Dilmaghani and Tyson Cave could each do against inferior competition. Come this summer, we might just see what they could do against one another.
The two fighters came face-to-face following the event, each taking turns on the microphone to say their piece. The two fighters are tentatively scheduled for a summer clash.
FightOn caught up with Lee Baxter, promoter for Dilmaghani and the Feb. 10 event both fighters fought on, to discuss the potential match.
“The plan is for him (Dilmaghani) to fight the guy who beat Logan (McGuineness) beat on April 20 (a reference to Horacio Cabral), everything is in place providing he signs to fight. If not him, it’s something who is world ranked. After that, we’ll focus on this Tyson Cave fight.”
Well there’s no date in place, Baxter confirms the bout is likely for late July or early August.
Baxter believes that Dilmaghani has some of the skills that could trouble Cave.
“I’ve only seen Tyson Cave look troubled by a southpaw. It’ll be a really good fight, at the end of the day the best man wins,” Baxter said. “Tyson might still be in the mix. He lost a controversial decision for a world title, so it’s someone that Alex needs to beat if he’s going somewhere.”
Baxter added that he sees Cave as a fighter “that’s always on cruise control.”
“He fights guys who have so much less talent than him that you never see the full Tyson,” Baxter said. “I was really excited about the call out, I wasn’t sure if he’d (Dilmaghani) be responsive as he was. It showed a lot of his character.”
