National champion Gillard pulled from May 5 pro debut

May 5 was supposed to be a big night in the career of Evan Gillard. Unfortunately, that’ll have to wait.

The multiple-time national champion was scheduled to make his professional debut on the undercard of a CCC Promotions, but according to multiple sources he’s been pulled from the card and suspended until August 1.

The news was originally reported by Philippe St-Martin of BoxRec. Gillard confirmed the news on his Facebook page, saying “with huge disappointment my fight has unfortunately been cancelled due to medical issues.” He added “so sorry to all my fans who bought tickets we will be back in 3 (sic) months.”

It is unclear what medical issue arose or whether it’s connected to Gillard’s fights in early April as part of the Canadian National Championships.

The May 5 card in Peterborough is headlined by Cody Crowley (13-0) vs. Kevin Higson (14-1) for the CPBC National and International Super Welterweight Title.
