Morgan Hughes set for pro debut February 10
The Ontario boxing scene has never been more stacked with prospects than it is right now, thanks to a growing amateur scene.
Morgan Hughes is just the latest example.
On February 10, Bracebridge’s Hughes is expected to make his professional boxing debut at a Lee Baxter promotions event headlined by Logan McGuinness and Alex Dilmaghani. While Baxter has not officially signed Hughes, an impressive performance could lead to him signing with Baxter or another promoter.
Hughes has been overlooked by many thanks to the success of Toronto’s Artur Biyarslanov, who has often taken the top spot at 64kg. in national and international tournaments. The two have squared off before, with Biyarslanov taking the decision after a clash of heads forced the fight to halt at the 2015 Silver Gloves.
According to BoxingOntario, the orthodox fighter has 28 amateur bouts. Hughes is expected to compete at 140 lbs.
