We promised this long ago and we’ve finally delivered.

Below is the first ever FightOn rankings. This site has an obvious focus on the Ontario fight scene, but we felt it would be an important service to the boxing community of Canada if we took the time to rank the top professional fighters in the country.

There has been attention paid to the quality of opposition, particularly over the prior two years. It’s not easy task to decipher where to rank fighters with similar records. The Canadian heavyweight boxing scene is the perfect example. The top three fighters are all undefeated, which forced us to dig a little bit deeper into their records to decide who belongs where. As well, some attention was paid to how the victories were achieved. A knockout is valued over a unanimous decision, which is valued over a split or majority decision and so on.

We’d like to acknowledge that these rankings are a work in progress. We will be working to develop a point system in the future so that the ranking system is less arbitrary.

You’ll notice some divisions, particularly the lower weight classes, don’t have as many ranked fighters as others. This isn’t an attempt to slight anyone. Simply put, there not enough depth in those divisions to create proper weight top-five rankings.

We have decided that only fighters with a .500 ranking or higher are eligible. This is something we’re open to changing, but it hasn’t been an issue so far.

One final note is that any fighter who hasn’t competed for the last 12 months is automatically ineligible for the ranking system, no matter the reason. As soon as they compete again, they will be automatically eligible.

We will be updating these rankings on a monthly basis. But for now, here’s the inaugural Canadian boxing rankings.
